New Indie: Cormac Looby + “Losing You”

The Tipperary solo-artist excels in latest single

Cormac Looby

FFO: Mitski, Phoebe Bridgers, Sam Fender, The National.

Inspired by songwriting stunners such as Mick Flannery, Bell X1, Phoebe Bridgers and Sam Fender, it’s no wonder how emerging artist Cormac Looby delivers powerful parcels of honesty release after release. Combining elements of folk, pop, and rock, all tied together with introspective lyricism and a shining sound that we always hits home, Looby’s work has earned him praise across Irish and UK media.

On track to releasing his debut album; 'A Perpetual State of Irony'this year, the LP will consist of ten brand-new tracks, in collaboration with Black Gate Studio. “Losing You", which teases what might be expected from the album, is a song that explores the fear that surrounds potentially letting certain people go from your life. Heavily influenced by The National and Sam Fender, the song was written after Looby returned to Ireland from seeing The National perform abroad,  realising that, one day, moving away might mean saying goodbye to certain people for good.

Recorded at Black Mountain Studios, Dundalk and at the Clinic, Dublin, the single was mixed and produced by Liam King from Black Gate Studio, Galway and mastered by Pete Maher (U2, The Killers, Damien Rice). Quite the emotional single, it’s woven with Looby’s nostalgic, yearning sound and speaks very promising things of the upcoming album.

“Losing You” really pulls on the heart strings, and touches on many Irish people’s complex relationship with Ireland. A fine piece of work from the Tipperary solo-artist.
