Rival Sons announce “Lightbringer” album release
Currently finishing up their string of US shows before they hit Canada and Europe, the rock quartet’s second album of the year is set to drop on October 20th.
The highly anticipated follow-up to June’s “Darkfighter” LP, the “Lightbringer” announcement was supported by the release of first lead-single, “Sweet Life”, which sees the band fully settle into a The Black Keys-esque, fuzz rock style.
In a recent Instagram post, vocalist Jay Buchanan made a statement about the double-album release:
“Darkfighter is a new Rival Sons, and Lightbringer is a clear definition of what we are now. We broke ground on Darkfighter, but Lightbringer is a step beyond the personal innovation and exploration…….We had more friction and compromise than ever, because we isolated the bare essence of where we needed to go - and then we went there”
Creating the two albums across 2021 with producer Dave Cobb, “Darkfighter” was met with much critical acclaim, with the band being warmly praised for approaching a leaner-and-meaner style. About the upcoming successor, guitarist Scott Holiday recognised that the LP has big boots to fill:
“When you do two albums back to back like this, there are a lot of things to think about. The first record has to pack enough of a punch and tell enough of a story for the second half to have an even bigger impact. We balanced them out with energy and meaning, but the follow-up always needed to deliver a bigger blow. I think 'Lightbringer' provides this."
Unfortunately with no Dublin or Belfast shows on their current tour, Irish fans who attended their 2022 gig in the Academy can all but hope for appearance in 2024 that will treat them to both new albums.
