A Lost Decade drop debut album, “Valley of death”
Bringing listeners back to the golden age of grunge rock, the French trio PUMP biting cynicism into THEIR introspective debut lp.
Born in 2016 by former Duck Explosion members Will and Hervé (later joined by drummer Maxime), A Lost Decade were inspired to radically change their working methods in 2017, where the creation of the album first came to light.
Recording and mixing the LP between September and February of the following year, production was entrusted in Mickael Garcia, who solidifies the band’s haunting grunge sound. Aiming to arouse fascination and contemplation in their listeners, the band re-open the door to what they feel is the underrated decade of the 90s era. Celebrating duality, passion and authenticity, title track “Valley of Death” draws elements from the styles imprinted by the Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Queens of the Stone Age, and serves as one re-imagined peek into an important era of music history.
Characteristically DIY, the track dips into broader influences, specifically nodding to Disturbed’s tom-heavy drum style and Pearl Jam’s use of climactic, elevated pre-chorus and chorus structures. Further intercepting dark atmospheres with lighter moments of dialogue, A Lost Decade have functionally stuck to what they know best, and god do they do it well.
