C.O.B.R.A Awards winners for 2023 revealed

Our fantastic judge panel have come to a conclusion for each category…

WINNER - BEST SINGLE - LAKE ACACIA

“What you see is not what you get"

A huge congratulations to the band on this win. Best Single is one of the biggest and most difficult categories for us to determine our decisions.

I personally first came across the band via a Groover submission, and was instantly blown away. Much like Royal Blood, the power of a duo is one of the most exciting and dynamic energies in the music industry, and Lake Acacia are a fantastic example of this. One of the best emerging alt rock acts emerging from the UK right now.

This single is from the band's EP, "Alter Ego" which you can check out now!

WINNER - BEST EP - VANSLEEP

“How Many Nights”

Vansleep are a euphoric alt/indie rock band from Aberdeen, Scotland. Steadily establishing themselves on a national scale pre-pandemic, the band are no strangers to the local scene, and boast much support from top Scottish and UK outlets.

"How Many Nights" explores the band's darker side, with vocalist Kyle MacRitchie leaning into his deeper-fuelled tones. The band are a prime example of a slick, confined but memorable sound, that brings mystery to indie.

The EP is available to stream across all major streaming platforms now.

WINNER - BEST DEBUT SINGLE - LIPGLOSS

"Better off this way"

Lipgloss are a rising alt shoegaze band from Belfast. One of Northern Ireland's best newcomers for 2024, the band's debut single "Better off this way" is a stellar introduction, showcasing the band's rich and textured sound, that is incredibly secure at such an early stage of their journey.

WINNER - BEST DEBUT EP - INBETWEEN HONEY

"Ludlow Street"

Inbetween Honey are a rising indie rock quartet formed in County Meath. Playing sold out shows in top Dublin venues Whelan's and The Workman's Club, along with a set at the iconic Electric Picnic festival, the band are a stand-out indie act in the national scene, offering an anthemic alternative sound you dont want to miss hearing.

The Best EP category is one of our favourite to vote on, as it represents the first solid chapter of a band's history book. "Ludlow Street" is a substantial opening for In-between Honey's journey, that we can't wait to see grow.

WINNER - BEST MUSIC VIDEO - SWEETS

"Ing Ya"

Sweets are an alternative rock band hailing from Limerick. Firmly entrenched in their county's prolific music scene, the band flip between hardcore and grunge styles to radiate a unique and powerful textured rock sound.

The "Ing Ya" music video, directed by Keith Lawler, is an enticing time capsule of Limerick's past, specifically highlighting archive footage of the county's breakdance community.
