Kansas CITY retro-rock duo the black Mariah theatre release single, “old flame”

the genre-bending sister duo are delighted to present the last single of their sophomore album, “mean to be mean”.

A zealous, girl-soaked LP, “Old Flame” is a peek into the Kansas City duo’s sparkly, self dubbed “witch-rock” sound:

“Mean to be Mean” takes listeners on an energetic, upbeat journey in six passionate, driving songs”.

Comprised of siblings Analiese and Sophia, the duo offer a hypnotising potpourri of jazz, blues and alternative rock. Unafraid to “tell it like it is”, the two-piece aspire to deliver the perfect listening experience for those struggling with a bad day, a lonely night, or a period of heartbreak. The love-song of the record, “Old Flame” lets listeners take the reigns: You will either be pining for a lost love, dancing with strangers, or contemplating jealousies. A sonically buoyant track with a crisp, retro-inspired tone, fans of The Black Keys and Weakened Friends should be warmly drawn to The Black Mariah Theatre’s dynamic, rhythmic-driven character.

One of my favourite releases of the year so far, the band’s minimalistic structures allow much room for the duo to execute their originality without getting lost in their own sound. Mixing lo-fi production and guitar-and-vocal unison with infectious riffs and grooves, the band have nailed the “vintage rock” sound that is tentitively making a comeback.
