A Beech Landing Unveil Debut Single “Better By Design”

A Beech Landing: A dystopian journey through a fictional rivalry and the realisation of the reality, that exists only in your head.

The debut single from the rather enigmatic dream-indie rockers, A Beech Landing was “born out of a selfish need for healing”, and a need to test the limits of what was possible to create on a beech landing (literally). Creating music to empower themselves and those fortunate enough to be part of their journey, the emerging outfit aren’t afraid to admit that they struggle, and their music struggles with you. Member Jack James explains,

“The band was created as a therapeutic healing process to deal with something intense that was happening at the time, and it involved me using it every day to help cope with things and get things out of my head. I'd had to leave where I was living and move to a place where there was a tiny landing (made of beech wood, thus the name). Musically, I just sat with my laptop and a guitar on the landing a just let whatever wanted to come out come out. I ended up sounding a big smashing pumpkins, tame impala, wet leg, but also Bee Gees, Abba, and Zepplin) Then I bought a bunch of dirt-cheap analogue gear (most of it wasn't even intended for mixing and mastering) and mixed and mastered it through that. This particular song is about a Blur/Oasis-style rivalry between me and a friend's band. They would put out a song I'd try to do better, then they'd release another that was better, and every time I thought I got close, they'd outdo me. Only the whole thing was in my head, and know one else even knew about it, including the other band. Just me on a beech landing”

Debut release “Better by Design” leaves an excellent first impression - the result of a project fuelled by passion, authenticity and creation for creation’s sake. The track is built on a reverb-soaked hybrid of indie, pop and rock, boasting high-quality production, vocals and a spirit that had us hooked from the first second, drawing some comparisons to the likes of Two Door Cinema Club, MGMT and Mac DeMarco. Though, remembering that this is only their debut, such a fluid sound can only bring excitement surrounding where they will go next.

The single could easily be placed into an opening scene of a raw, emotional coming-of-age film that has you laughing, crying and questioning your life. There’s some angst, attitude and fallibility, stemming from vocalist Jack James’ transparency on how the project came to be. Overall, A Beech Landing have hit the ground running, and we hope they don’t keep us guessing too long before their next release is revealed. This is the start of something great….
