Dublin’s Brake Loose unleash, “Rebel Rebel (Evil like the Devil)”
Taking charge of the national hard rock scene, the fierce quartet are soon to take their career to the next level overseas.
Brake Loose have been one of the country’s hottest rock exports in recent years, and “Rebel Rebel (Evil like the Devil)” feels like the start of bigger things beyond the emerald isle for the four-piece.
Led and formed in 2021 by reckless Venezuelan singer and poet Alex Murillo, the band combines the talent of guitarist David O’Grady, bassist Juanjo Pulpeiro, and drummer Dylan Martin: Four “21st-century romantics obsessed with touring and tearing up every single venue they perform”. Untamed in sound and nature, they have branded themselves as an unconventional but significant collective, playing memorable sold out gigs in The Workman’s Club and catching the ears of daring, alternative rock lovers (Maneskin, Nine Inch Nails, Rob Zombie).
The new single, which explores embracing individualism as an act of rebellion, is a dark but energized track that was born on a September night in their Glasnevin studio. Lyricist Alex, inspired by his favorite poets Arthurd Rimbaud and Allen Ginsberg, was looking for something that could “bring people together, a fierce anthem with such a chanting and catchy chorus that everyone will sing along and stamp their feet as a unison”. Developed by his fellow members, what emerged was a blood-boiling track that was brought to life in Dunboyne’s Oblivion Studios under Bulgarian producer and engineer Mr. Yanko Genov.
Forever rebels and loveable devils, Brake Loose are a band that don’t lose momentum. They are a band with a roar, and acts in their field have every right to be jealous, or scared, of their ungodly energy.
