Cavan Band Dirty Marmalade Release Single “Król Markus II”, from Upcoming Debut Album
Dirty Marmalade is the creative nexus formed by Lil’ Phynott & Mildly Fool!sh, who after a series of serendipitous occurrences, found themselves with an opportunity to independently produce music that reflects their experiences in the deep, hilly landscape of Cavan.
The band rather perfectly describe their sound as “simultaneously familiar, and also like absolutely nothing else”. Whatever you may think it is, it’s certainly been growing in power since the band’s debut in 2023, and we’re pleased to be watching it rise from the early stages. Proudly rooted in Cavan's sodden landscape, Donny Mc Avenue (Lil' Phynott) and Emil Kapusta (Mildly Fool!sh) affirm that they have plenty of writing and releasing works in their inimitable style on the radar for this year.
Their latest release “Król Markus II”, is the second single from their upcoming debut album “Hills of Breifne”, out on the 30th May this year. Dubbed a “chill acoustic folk-rock song about the one true friend who's positive spirit lifts you out of a negative circle”, the latest single nods to Pinegrove and Ocean Alley as core influences, though in what is becoming true Dirty Marmalade fashion, a unexpected turn makes an appearance when the song is ushered out with a melodic and quirky guitar solo.
The band continue to potion their own glowing-pink elixir of alternative-rock, that has potential to dive and swim between a broader range of influences as they see fit. Dirty Marmalade is a politely strange, eclectic blend of class that isn’t averse to a bit of scandal, and this intrigue is what will have them on the top of the Irish industry’s radar in no time. From the fresh, contemporary vibe of single “XIX:XI” to the rather classic-punk-tinted “why else?”, I think we’ve found the King chameleons of Irish Alternative for 2025.
