Dylan Flynn and the Dead Poets release video for “the story after they’re gone”
The Ascending Irish indie-rockers have crafted a contemplative visual that fully brings their new single to life.
If you’re hearing the band for the first time through this single, it’s only right to say that you’re a lucky listener. A band that align themselves with the unique, authentic styles of Sam Fender, Gang Of Youths, Sea Girls and The Night Café, the Limerick five-piece are an exciting indie force.
Directed by Jamie Moore, the music video to the single takes the viewer on a journey around various rooms and locations close to the bands heart. The lyrics follow a stream of consciousness storyline, where the narrator ponders his life after losing everyone around him. As a secondary layer of insight, the band explain that the video serves to mimic the spiral of confusion and hopelessness. As the video progresses, the shots become more and more empty, eventually leaving Flynn to be the only person left. He explains:
“This track talks about losing friends and family, and we wanted to capture that in visual form. We began creating scenes that felt like memories of moments spent with close ones, and as the video moves along, we wanted to show those memories falling apart”
A combination of creative perspectives between Moore, videographer Wojciech Kwiatkowski and the band, what results is a candid expression of a feeling many fans may resonate with all too well. The song, which was created with long term collaborator Mike Gavin (Windings) and Richard Dowling (Foo Fighters, Brian Eno, Villagers), sees the band add another introspective, realistic depiction of life’s enigmatic workings to their repertoire. This is something the band have always done well, and consistently in a creative, professional way. This maturity, frustration and endeavor to understand their place as an independent band from Limerick, couldn’t be expressed with more eloquence (but still driven by a DIY ethos).
Dylan Flynn and the Dead Poets are a band that like to grow their knowledge and preach their words to get listeners thinking. Their slick, charming sound makes it an even better deal.
