Indie-funk from Israel: Made on Earth release new single, "Shaking"
Formed in 2015 by members Ilai Lulai and Roee Levi, the duo later crossed paths with Omar Forstadt and Or Mahasilker to form vivacious indie outfit, Made On Earth.
Masterminded by Lulai, a songwriter and composer who has spent years researching “music, the industry and the planet Earth itself”, this particular single was written during his time in the army, where he felt pressured by destiny to be apart of something he didn’t believe, but was forced to ignore in order to survive.
Meeting drummer Levi through their tank unit service, the duo shared a love of writing and music-making. Upon completing their service, the duo aspired to bring their music journey to a new setting: The studio. What has since developed has brought their career to new heights, and has branded the act as a truly exciting group that combine elements of funk, indie-rock, jazz and reggae to create one delicious concoction.
A taster to the EP, “Smoking Hills”, the track centers on the concepts of faith and the life that societies and religions impose on us, versus that of which we choose for ourselves. Written by Lulai on a war field, it feels rather fitting that the track would dive into such profound thoughts and discuss greater human perspectives.
Wishing to share his heart and mind through his music, Lulai and his fellow members have showcased a fascinating ability to express dark, perhaps abstract ideas through a colourful sonic palate.
