New Roots Music: Jay Sprouse + folk-rock EP, “Innocent Harmony”

American folk solo artist Jay Sprouse

A collection of songs recorded 15 years ago, Jay Sprouse’s new EP, “Innocent Harmony”, captivates listeners with its raw emotion and heartfelt storytelling.

In May 2008, amid joblessness and the housing crash, Sprouse found inspiration in Tom Petty film, “Running Down a Dream”, which sparked an idea to the purchase a guitar and harmonica, and relocate to Farmville, VA and begin a new musical venture. Despite limited recording resources, Sprouse explains that he always imagined a full band sound, and his vision came to life in the fall of 2009 when two talented Texas musicians joined the line-up. Over three days at The Bubble Recording Studio, the band captured the essence of Sprouse’s sound, with the silent hero of the EP being longtime friend, Whitaker Elledge, who did everything from producing and arranging to singing backing vocals. Now, 15 years later, the songs have been publicly released - poised to resonate deeply with listeners. Sprouse explains:

They represent a personal journey and a unique period in my life, encapsulated in melodies that few have had the chance to hear.
