Organized chaos: Petrichor reveal debut single, “Pious”
Fusing industrial rock noise with the spirit of shoegaze, the Wicklow newcomers have landed with quite the thud.
Formed by Liam Hughes, Lu Hope, Ben Verdes and Harry Richards in 2022, Petrichor have introduced themselves as quite the mysterious quartet. Dancing with entrancing melodies and dark, compelling soundscapes, the band aim to leave the listener “feeling something new” with their four-and-a-half-minute debut. Whether this means newfound strength or empowering disorder is uncertain, but the blurred lines between the psychological, the physical and the intangible make for a tasty, sinister premiere track.
Giving us an insight into the song, the band explained:
“When we were writing the track Pious we wanted it to have a hectic feel, like it was all over the place but still put together, organised noise in a way. At the time we were heavily inspired by the fusion of electronic industrial music and loud rock, similar to the likes of Gilla band, Enola Gay, Nerves and Naked Lungs. But that wasn’t everything. We wanted to create something that sounded and felt new, and try to avoid relying on other music which was all part of our creative process which we discovered by just jamming endlessly until we found something that clicked.”
Brooding but urgent, “Pious” stands as pioneering figure in the streets of Ireland’s dark shoegaze town. Fans in this rapidly growing community can only eagerly anticipate what else Petrichor have looming in the shadows.
