The rosecaps keep it cool with “Ocean Floor”
For fans of Arctic Monkeys, The Academic and Sam Fender, The Rosecaps are topping Ireland’s list of most promising indie exports.
Championed by The Irish Times, Hotpress, GoldenPlec, and earning support slots for Hudson Taylor, Wild Youth and Chasing Abbey, The Rosecaps have had a stellar 2023. Hailing from Galway and composed of Daniel O’Malley (lead vocals/guitar), Shane Fahy (keys), Daniel Fahy (bass) and Emmet Feerick (drums), the four friends have fully committed themselves to their journey, going so far as to collectively differ their college courses to pursue their ambitions.
Looking to sell out the iconic Whelan’s venue in Dublin next month using the excitement around their new single, the band have dubbed the track a statement piece of their discography. The band explained:
“it was one of those cases where the lyrics were coming to us faster than we could stop to question them. There was such a buzz in the room that day, and we just wanted to let ideas flow and not break momentum. At the time of writing we didn’t think too critically about what we were trying to say, but looking back and analysing our own words the next day was a really interesting experience”
Wanting to expand their lyrical and arranging skill set, the band explain how pushing their boundaries created something even they didn’t expect to showcase such a clear growth in their work:
“It was easy to see some clear themes hidden in the many metaphors of the lyrics. Our protagonist of the song is clearly fearful of commitment, and is scared to try new things when the probability of failure seems to always be so high. They worry about how their own pessimism affects the people around them, and they feel as if they aren’t ready for their own life in a way. It was just mad to look back on because the last year has been so unstable for us as a band that we couldn’t help but all relate”
What they’ve anticipated to be a challenging song to perform live, the band have nevertheless uncovered a new level of potential whilst remaining true to their spirited character. An excellent track to lead The Rosecaps into a huge 2024.
