New Psych-Punk: Dumb Posh Hippies + “Dude Almighty!”

A Heaven-sent single from the three wise men of p(rog)unk

Dublin / Derry prog punk rock band, Dumb Posh Hippies

Hailing from Dublin / Derry, Dumb Posh Hippies are a self-proclaimed dumb, fun, psychy p(rog)unk trio, with a love for big riffs and pace. Recently catching them live absolutely blowing the roof off the Thomas House Bar, we can attest to their ambition to write “music for the live experience”, with enough energy to take your head off.

With one EP and a string of singles under their belt, the band have just released latest track, “Dude Almighty!”, which you can call some sort of religious punk experience to cleanse your ears, and bust your eardrums should you so wish to be blessed in that way. Recorded, mixed and mastered by Darragh Hansard in Orcs Lair studio, the band blend a classic-inspired style with an intense modern energy, delivering frenzy, power and moody disposition into two minutes and fifteen seconds. Much like some of their previous releases, “Dude Almighty!” has a relentlessness and sense of spirit that keeps you guessing. But don’t be fooled - underneath the chaos is some serious attention to arrangement, development and pace.

About the single, lead singer and guitarist Ciarán Fitz explains:

‘Dude Almighty’ is one we’ve had from the beginning basically. We used a guitar riff I had since I was a teenager and mushed it into some other bits. Big bang of ‘Dead Kennedys’ off this one with a Matt Freeman style bass solo for the craic, definitely leant into our more formative influences on this tune. Verdy fun to play live.

Dumb Posh Hippies have a bag of tricks that may shock and surprise, but will never disappoint. Check out the new single on Bandcamp, YouTube and Spotify below:
