Scorching blues-soul rock from Alabama: “Fire on the Mountain”

The Midnight Shepherds do it best, when they do it live.

Recorded at The Bone and the Barrel studios, Fairhope, “Fire on the Mountain” is the latest of the band’s gorgeous live-recorded releases. Invested with a blues narrative and soul structures, the single embodies the richest characteristics of their sound, which has taken them across the Gulf coast from Mississippi to Florida. About the track, guitarist Turner Mason explains:

“We have always played this song as our opener. The lyrics have always been very interesting to us. It’s a very mythical, yet understandable song that both us and the crowd can feel when we play it.”

It has to be said that there is something very special about this track. Arguably, a live-recorded performance always sees a band at their most dynamic, but for The Midnight Shepherds, their fully live discography captures them in their truest form in style and heart, consistently. To be treated to this candid, authentic insight across multiple singles and albums, is something not all acts can execute well, nor can offer outside of a crowd-filled gig, yet this is how the Alabama quartet flourish in and out of the studio.

And true to the spirit of a musician: That’s the way they like it, and that’s how they’re doing it.
