5 Irish punk bands to get on your radar in 2025

5 emerging psych, noise and experimental punk makers that caught our ears this year

Joe Maxi are a proper noisy, experimental powerhouse in the Irish scene, blending punk, prog and alternative sounds to deliver one meaty mouthful.

‘Joe Maxi brings a different vibe and a different energy, melding psych with prog and putting the funk into post-punk’. Singer Mikey Fowler is a force of nature. His lyrics punctuated by the observations around him while on stage, seem almost spontaneous’ - The Goo Dublin.

We had the priviledge of working with the band on two occassions this year, promoting their single “Butterfly” and debut EP “The Game”.

The Spudguns are a five-piece band from small towns and built-up areas in Ireland. They play for yourselves, for themselves, and for everybody else. The band is made up of Thomas Wakely, Adam Burke, Kalebh Grocock and, brothers Eoin and Kealan Power.

Working out of their studio “Big Beef Sound” in Arklow Co. Wicklow, the band has refined their DIY-style approach to recording, while shaping their unique sound. Their music takes inspiration from surf rock and garage rock, with subtle touches of psychedelia.

The band have just debuted on the scene with single, “Dusty”; a hearty post-punker that has become one of our favourite releases of 2024.

Rising psych-punk-rock band Dumb Posh Hippies from Dublin, Ireland

DUMB POSH HIPPIES

Dumb, fun, psych p(rog)unk. Dumb Posh Hippies are a psych-influenced, three-piece punk band from Dublin with a love for big riffs and pace. Catching them live back in August supporting Sun Mahshene in the Thomas House Bar, we can attest to their ambition to write music “for the live experience”, with enough energy to take your head off.

We were also lucky to work with Dumb Posh Hippies this year, promoting the punchy, two-minute, appropriately named, “Scrunched Up Fist”.

Fierce Shook are a three-piece punk trio hailing from Tullamore who lean more into a classic, heavier rock sound, keeping it simple, slick but unequivocally punk to the core. The group consists of Rob Moore (Guitar, Bass, Vocals) and brothers Owen (Guitar, Bass, Vocals) and Ozzy Holmes (Drums, Vocals).

“Fierce Shook traffic in garage sounding punk that manages to sound sloppy, heavy and joyous at the same time....strong Irish contenders” – The Pensive Quill

The band released their debut EP, “Something Sophisticated”, in October 2024.

The west coast boys blend punk, alt-rock and indie to deliver catchy, chaotic and highly energetic tunes. First crossing our paths in 2022 with single “Television”, the band have been steadily releasing some spirited, top-notch singles, and are set for a big 2025.

“Post punks with a little grit and a bit of an attitude problem but not wanting to put in the effort to do something about it” - Blowtorch Records
