Irish garage-punk rockers The Spud Guns release debut single, “Dusty”

A mighty debut release that ticks our boxes

The Spudguns are a brand new five-piece band hailing from the humble small towns and built-up areas in Ireland, playing for yourselves, themselves, everybody else.

Comprised of Thomas Wakely, Adam Burke, Kalebh Grocock and brothers Eoin and Kealan Power, the band work out of their studio “Big Beef Sound” in Arklow, Co. Wicklow. Spending time before this substantial debut to refine their DIY-style approach to recording and shape their sound, their music takes core inspiration from surf rock and garage rock, with subtle touches of psychedelia.

Boasting appearances at Bray’s Harbour Bar, Dublin City's Fibber McGee’s, Cork City's Fred Zeppelin’s, and the Seabreeze Festival in Arklow, the band are bumbling nicely up and down the country, and their debut single sets them up for a busy 2025. Recorded in-house by Céin O’Dowd of Peer Pleasure & Mastered by Ivan Jackman of Hellfire, the debut single is a three-minute parcel of a core descending riff, post-punk shaped vocal delivery, rumbling low end and crashing drums, and a capricious energy throughout.

The band may be blowing the dust off the single if it’s been sitting in the works for some time, but it’s choice as the ever-important debut, and it’s responsibility as a window of potential into what’s to become, is shining. Irish garage rockers and post-punkers have some serious competition on their backs…

The single release will be followed by a gig in their favourite haunt, Anseo, Camden Street on December 14th. Keep an eye on the band’s socials for more information.
