COBRA Ones To Watch: Midnight Housework release second single “If You Find Me”
For fans of The War on Drugs, Death Cab for Cutie, American Football and mewwithoutyou, this Belfast band is stirring some major attention.
Their music and aesthetic stemming from cult classic movies and life captured through 35mm film, the band are developing a brand as slick as their sound. Comprised of four seasoned musicians from Belfast’s thriving music scene, they combine elements of indie, alt, ambient and math rock into a glassy, classy style. With two releases now under their belt, they’re a pick ‘n’ mix of nostalgia, imagination and sonic soundscapes, nicely mapping their listeners a journey between “cathartic loudness and tranquil silence”.
The members are all performance alumni for fellow independent bands and artists, such as Garrett Laurie, MOSA, Ember Trails and Big Daisy. New single, “If You Find Me”, recorded with Jonny Woods, is invested with mood and aura, all catalyzed from intricate guitar work, heartfelt vocals, tasteful basslines and dynamic drumming. The band explain:
“…It's basically a big emotional heartfelt banger. Fez decided to shoot the video in black and white which was a great choice, it turned out very moody and very cool. Our good friends Problem Patterns let us use their rehearsal room to shoot, so we brought a bunch of crazy lights, our gear, Fez's camera, and we just went wild! We can't wait to get this song out and see what doors it opens for us”.
2024 was a good year for Belfast, churning out a wonderful community of strong indie acts, and it seems that Midnight Housework lands top of the lot for 2025, and it will be very hard to knock them off. What a brilliant start to a new industry year….
“If You Find Me” is a seriously strong second single from the emerging four-piece. Its high-quality video speaks promising things of the band, who are perfectly balanced between indie and alternative rock (and very much to our taste). Tied together with might we say, a splash of shoegaze, the single has our ears fully perked and eager for more.
